With five rivers, 260km of navigable waterways and more than 750 hectares of lakes and dams to manage, the Gold Coast Waterways Authority (GCWA) plays a vital role in planning, managing and protecting the Gold Coast’s iconic waterways. With boating registrations in the region growing at more than twice the State-wide growth rate, the responsibility for ensuring the Gold Coast’s waterways remain something that residents can use, understand, protect, respect, enhance and enjoy is crucial. The GC Waterways Shoal Reporting application is a free smart phone application that enables the general public to report areas of possible shoaling. The locations of shoals (or areas of reduced depth) are important to waterway users and GCWA. Typically the information supplied to GCWA will help us to plan the best way to maintain our waterways. Waterways are dynamic environments and shoaling reports need to be investigated to ensure the most appropriate action is taken. This app is for reporting non-urgent issues. To report urgent Gold Coast waterways issues including navigation aid faults, navigation hazards or marine pollution incidents, please contact us by phone on 07 5539 7373. For other urgent or life threatening issues please call 000 or refer to www.qld.gov.au/emergency.
